Some quotes from last years ELC:

‘I can honestly say without reservation that The Ladbrokes European Ladies Championship of Poker 2007 is officially one of my favourite poker experiences to date.’

‘With such a collection of well-known faces mixed in with the unknown quantities that were the online qualifiers, what could have been a very daunting experience was actually surprisingly inclusive and friendly. It was hard to believe that in a few minutes time the warm smiles would retreat behind dark glasses and solemn faces as the cards were dealt.’

  • Bad Beat Progressive Jackpot at Ladbrokes

Ladbrokes, Poker News No Comments »

    Bad Beat Progressive Jackpot

To qualify for the Bad Beat Jackpot:

  • The losing hand must contain at least Aces full of Tens (with at least one Ace in the hole cards if the qualifying hand is a Full House).
  • Four or more Players must be dealt into the hand.
  • The hand must be a raked hand and the Jackpot contribution is collected from the hand.
  • The best hand of the winner and the loser must include both the hole cards, and the hand must go to a showdown. The Jackpot contribution is only collected once during a hand.

The value of the Jackpot contribution is $0.50. Once the rake has reached $1.00, an additional $0.50 is taken for the Bad Beat Progressive.

The Jackpot contribution is displayed as a separate rake chip stack, to the right of the normal rake chip stack, on the poker chip tray.

Jackpot contributions are accumulated until the Jackpot is won.

The current Bad Beat Jackpot value is displayed in the Lobby and on every Jackpot table.

The Bad Beat Jackpot applies to specified tables only. Players must be seated at one of these tables and actively participate in the hand to qualify for any payouts.

Players can qualify for the table share of the Jackpot if they were dealt into the hand but folded before the showdown.

If the minimum number of Players do not participate in the hand, the hand does not qualify for the progressive and the progressive rake is not taken.

If there are more than two hands involved in a Bad Beat in a hand, then the two highest hands are considered for the Jackpot. The higher of the two hands is the winning hand and the other hand wins the Bad Beat.

The percentage payout of the Jackpot is as follows:

    - 70% is distributed as winnings:

50% to the losing hand, the Bad Beat
25% to the winner of the hand
25% evenly split between the other Players who actively participated in the hand

    - 20% is used to seed the next Jackpot - 10% is used for administration.

  • More Than Just The Luck Of The Irish: James Wins A Wii, A Sports Car, And $52,000 At Partypoker.Com

Party Poker, Poker News No Comments »

Ireland’s James McManus was the big winner of PartyPoker.com’s The Grind promotion, scooping a Mini Cooper S Convertible in the prize draw and a Nintendo Wii when he came sixth at the final table of a Grindroll. If that was not enough, James was already celebrating after winning $52,000 in the famous PartyPoker.com Bad Beat Jackpot just two months before!

Dubliner James, 22, recently finished studying maths at college and intends to work in the finance industry or as a maths teacher - and he’s now got a bumper bankroll to get him going.

“It has been a good couple of months,” said James with great understatement. “I didn’t have many debts but I’ve paid off all that I did have! I intend to use some of the money to build a bankroll for online cash games. I’ve thought about the tournament circuit a bit but I would need a bigger bankroll and I’m happy where I am now.

“I opted to take $40,000 rather than the car. A Mini Cooper S Convertible would be great but I don’t really have the need for it at the moment. I’m looking forward to getting my Wii though. I also won the Bad Beat Jackpot two months ago. I had pocket queens and flopped quads, my opponent had quad nines! They got $104,000 and I got $52,000 and I won the hand! That was brilliant but to win all of this in such a short period of time is fantastic!”

James acknowledged that his maths skills can come in handy in his play but that he had just been on a very, very good run. “It has been going great recently. I normally play 2/4 or 3/6 no limit cash games and the odd tournament. I intend to stick to the same stakes for the time being and build on what I have.”

A PartyPoker.com spokesman said: “To bag a Wii, win a sports car in a draw and pocket $52,000 for flopping quad queens in just two months almost beggars belief, it is unprecedented. James is a great guy but it almost seems that someone is out there looking out for him!

“The Grind promotion featured $100,000-worth of Grindrolls and ran until September 9, 2007. To qualify for Grindrolls, players had to earn at least 25

PartyPoints per day over a three-day period by playing on the site. Once this was achieved they then qualified for the $2,000 Grindroll. The more PartyPoints a player earned in a day, the bigger Grindroll they were entered for. James managed to Grind for five days in each of the two weeks of the promotion and was automatically entered into the prize draw to win the Mini Cooper S Convertible. Other prizes won in Grindrolls included 80 Nintendo Wii’s and 120 80GB video iPods.

Rebuys Arrive At William Hill Poker

William Hill, Poker News No Comments »

From December 6th William Hill Poker will finally have rebuy tournaments.

They may have taken some time coming but rebuys have finally arrived at William Hill. Simply look out for the word ‘Rebuy’ in a tournament name.

Also, unique to William Hill, some of our extremely popular Headhunter tournaments will have rebuys for added excitement.

What is a Headhunter rebuy tournament?
When a player reaches zero chips during the rebuy period in a Headhunter rebuy tournament, they get the option to rebuy. Every time they rebuy, they are “resurrected” and a percentage of their rebuy fee goes into the prize pool, with the remaining amount going onto the player’s own head.

The real fun begins after the first break, when the rebuys and add-ons are over but the players’ head values have swollen with their rebuy funds! Knock a player out after the rebuy period to collect some real cash!
